Foundation Degree Young Children's Learning and Development Course Overview This two year Foundation Degree programme is taught at UCBC but validated by Lancaster University. It has been designed in response to major changes in the governments policies in working in the sector these include: Every Child Matters Change for children, the subsequent Children Act 2004, the Children's Workforce Strategy, the National Service Framework (NSF), the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for the early years workforce, and more relevantly the advent of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The government is committed to developing a first class Early Years workforce and recognise the need for higher levels of training. The Foundation Degree in Young Children's Learning and Development aims to address these training needs which are reflected in the learning outcomes for all the modules and is replicated in the commitment to work-based learning. What will I study? You will study 16 units to complete the course. These modules will examine the theories and principles relating to professional practice within the early years childcare and education sector. Personal Development Planning is also integral to the programme and you will work on a Personal Development Portfolio to illustrate your continuing professional development and competence. Modules can include Reflective Practitioner 1 ICT Advanced Child Development Professional Responsibilities Working with Families Research Methods The Learning Environment Building Positive Relationships Safeguarding Childhood Social Policy Research Project Reflective Practitioner 2 Leadership and Management Learning and Development Contemporary Issues of Health and Well-being in Young Children Course Requirements A level 3 childcare qualification is desirable. If however you do not have such a qualification you may still be able to join the programme following an interview. You must however be able to demonstrate substantial experience of working in a childcare environment and be able to discuss your reasons for wanting to pursue this qualification. You will also need to be working with children in a relevant child care setting for a minimum of 12hours a week. Don't have the grades to get on the course? Progression As well as the award of Foundation Degree in Young Children's Learning and Development awarded by Lancaster University, you will have achieved an innovative and flexible qualification which will allow you to progress onto a number of different career options, including BA (Hon's) Early Years Childcare Degree EYPS Validated by Lancaster University Duration 2 years full time, 4 years part time.
