WFD - NVQ L2 AMENITY HORTICULTURE Next start date(s) Jan Course Location Quarles Is this course for me? You will need to be employed in the horticulture industry for this programme. Your employer will have the option to either allow you to visit college one day a week or allow tutors to visit you in the workplace. What will I study? You will be allowed to have an input to the units that are selected and this will be based around your normal work duties. Option 1 is amenity horticulture specialising in machinery use and maintenace, maintaining plants, establishing decorative areas and maintaining general amenity turf. Option 2 specialises in landscaping topics covering site preparation, installation of hard landscaping features as well as plant related topics. These are the compulsory subjects: 7 units require completion for the full award and 2 of these are compulsory. 'Monitor and maintain working relationships' helps you with your communication skills in dealing with your work colleagues, your boss and the general public. 'Monitor and maintain health and safety' teaches you how to be safe in the work place as well as looking after others that may be at risk such as your work colleagues and the general public. What are the entry requirements? In order for you to enrol on this course you need to be employed in the horticulture industry. The college will do an initial assessment of your skills in literacy and numeracy and along with your experience of horticulture this will identify whether level 1, 2 or 3 is the most suitable for you. What can I do next? You can progress through the levels 1, 2 and 3 depending on the responsibilities of your job. Level 3 is accesable to you if you are at supervisory level. What employment does this relate to? In some cases completing your NVQ can mean a raise in salary. Completion of level 2 could result in you being given additional responsibility such as supervisor/charge hand. Completion of level 3 could allow you to progress to management level How will I be assessed? Your course is largly practical activity that is observed by the tutor in order to meet set requirements of performance. A typical way to prepare you for the observation would be; your tutor explains the task and then demonstrates the correct procedure. Questions are then asked to test you understand why you are doing it this way. When you are happy to repeat the task as demonstated then you have a go. If the standards are met you will move to the next task. if you did not meet the standards you will have another practice and then be re-assessed when you are ready. There are no limits to the number of times the assessment can take place. Hands on activity is supported by question booklets and each unit has a set of questions that require correct completion. When both the practical activity and questions have been successfully completed the unit is achieved. 7 units need to be achieved for the full award.
