Course Description

Welding Skills Level 2 Course ID: PC08479 Academy: Engineering Introduction: The course allows students to choose whichever welding process they wish to specialise in (i.e. MIG, ARC, TIG, OXY), assuming they have already completed the relevant Level 1 units. Study Mode & Location: This is an 14 week course, running one evening per week to allow the student to complete units. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR. Course Content: You have a choice of which welding process unit you take, from: Manual Metal Arc Welding - (MMA). Oxy Acetylene Welding - (Gas). Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG) Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG) Tungsten Inert Gas Welding - Aluminium (TIG) The course is delivered in our extensive and well equipped Fabrication & Welding Workshop and lecture rooms. Due to the nature of this course, any additional time spent practicing or generating portfolio evidence away from College will help you achieve the qualification, but there is no formal requirement to work at home. Assessment: You will be assessed via a combination of observations of practical activities and a question and answer session. Careers & Progression Opportunities: Successful completion of this course allows progression in to employment or students can also look at Coded Welding Certification. Additional Costs: Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory in all workshops. We ask that we bring with you overalls and steel toe capped boots. It is advisable that you purchase welding gloves. The College can recommend a suitable and competitive supplier for the above items - please ask for further details. How To Apply You will need to have an informal interview with an Adult Admissions Adviser. Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June. Money Matters Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study at a reduced price.
