Course Description

Non-medical nutritional advice is that commonly given by holistic, health and fitness therapists. Intimate contact exists between such therapists and clients in connection with their wish to improve their appearance and functioning. This has always led to clients seeking nutritional advice below the level of medical concern. This course covers the dietary and nutritional advice given to a client to help them achieve a healthier, balanced life style. Critical aspects of this qualification are the way in which it emphasises the non-medical nature of any advice given, the restriction of such advice within the age range 18 - 70 and the specification of reference to professional medical or nutrition advice when any abnormalities are encountered. In this way, experience has shown that non-medical therapists can contribute to good health and support the Health Services. This course will cover the following: Consultation procedures Special dietary requirements Dietary planning Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fibre Hydration fluids National guidelines Body mass index Food energy values Healthy eating Contra-indications This course contains the following units: VR61 Provide Non-Medical Advice on Nutrition VR159 Use consultation skills with Clients for Nutritional Advice VR02 Support Health, Safety and Security in the Workplace VR74 Support Employment Standards This course also includes the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards. This course is a mandatory part of all Holistic and Sports Therapy courses. If however you have already gained this Diploma in the last 3 years you will not have to complete it again providing evidence can be shown. Assessment: This qualification requires the candidate to provide evidence of competence in the form of case studies or individual treatments to cover range statements, and demonstrate sufficient knowledge to be able to explain non-medical nutritional advice and provide it safely, effectively and consistently. Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to complete both practical and theoretical assignments at home. Assessments will take place during the course and on the final assessment day. Course fees: Your Investment is ?415 which includes all VTCT registration and certification fees. If you have already registered with VTCT this will be reduced by ?15 and if you have already gained the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards in the last 3 years this will be reduced by a further ?16. This course runs over 4 days plus a final assessment day. 9.30am - 5.30pm (including refreshment breaks and lunch) Places are limited to a maximum of 4 so early booking is advisable.
