VRQ Automotive Maintenance & Repair:Light Vehicle (City & Guilds 4101) Course Details VRQ Begins September 2009 VRQ Automotive Maintenance and Repair: Light Vehicle (City & Guilds 4101) About this course This course can last for up to 2 years and provides an industry recognised qualification for the motor trade. You will learn theoretical and practical skills of all aspects of light vehicle engineering and will be able to diagnose and rectify faults in vehicle systems. On successful completion, you will be able to enter the industry as a vehicle technician at advanced apprentice level. If you successfully complete the irst year you will leave with a Level 2 technical award in maintenance and repair of light vehicles. City & Guilds is recognised nationally by the motor industry for trade level awards. You study You will start by gaining a basic understanding of vehicle systems, functions and components: safety and restraint systems; engines; suspension; steering; cooling systems; braking system and ABS; electronic ignition systems; petrol and diesel fuel systems; exhaust systems and vehicle electronics. At the end of Year 1, you will be able to diagnose and repair minor vehicle faults. In Year 2, you learn how these vehicle systems interact with each other. Using modern diagnostic methods, you will leave this course able to identify and rectify major vehicle system faults. Achievement is determined by successfully completing examinations and assessments taken during each year of the course. Progression at Perth College On completion you will have achieved a Level 3 technical award (VRQ: Vocationally Related Qualification) in maintenance and repair of light vehicles. Level 3 is the industry recognised trade level qualification. You will automatically be considered for the HNC in Automotive Engineering, a part time course available at Perth College. Careers and Training Many of our students are equipped to start their own business or potentially continue with an employer as a final-year apprentice to earn a modern apprenticeship award within employment.
