Course Description

Vehicle Body and Paint Operations Level 2 Apprenticeship. Day Release This Level 2 course is delivered mainly in the work place and you will develop the Level 1 skills using the latest materials, techniques and equipment. The use of two pack paint, clear over base and low bake oven techniques are covered at this stage. You will learn the importance of foundation materials including masking, abrasives, substrates and current & compliant products. An introduction to paint mixing and colour matching will be covered. How Will I Be Taught? There are 3 parts to an Apprenticeship: 1 NVQ that is delivered in the work place 2 Technical certificate (see the TTM210 course) which is studied over 2 years on a day release basis. 3 Key skills that are integrated into the apprenticeship portfolio and often need no further work. You will be in the workplace for 4 days and spend 1 day at College each week. On your College day your tutor will help you keep your portfolio up to date and concentrate on the theory needed for your Technical Certificate. How Will I Be Assessed? You will be assessed regularly in the work place and these assessments will cover all parts of your Apprenticeship. The Technical Certificate is also assessed by City & Guilds 'on-line' multi choice testing and any practical assessments that have not been covered through your work place. The key skills portfolio is integrated and if your GCSEs are good then there are no key skills tests to do. The duration of an Apprenticeship is largely determined by the opportunities that you get in the work place and is often shorter than the maximum time allowed. What Do I Need To Get On This Course? You must be employed in the trade. Before you start, our training advisor will visit your work place to check that you will have all the opportunities needed to complete the Apprenticeship. Academically, you will need either: A relevant Level 1 qualification (probably TTR110) Or 3 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths & English and a satisfactory understanding of motor vehicles. All our students take a College screening test that will be used to identify any extra support you might need and find the most suitable level of qualification for you. You will need steel toe capped footwear and workshop clothing, but don't buy anything yet - you will be advised at interview. If your family has a low income, you might get financial support for this essential equipment. You must also comply with all H&S regulations for your work place. What Can I Do With This Qualification? A Vehicle Refinishing Apprenticeship is well recognised in the trade and there are many opportunities. If your work place offers you the right experience, you will be able to progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship (see TTR350)
