This course has finished ? Check more dates Course outline What is the course about? This course will introduce you to the Art of Traditional Thai Massage. You will learn how to work on the floor utilising pressing and stretching techniques. Learn how to give and receive massage with your hands, thumbs, knees, feet and elbows as well as Yoga type stretching. What topics will we cover? In this practical based course, you will be learning experientially how Thai Massage can benefit the giver and receiver as a whole. You will cover back and leg massage in side position, including hands and feet. You will also one or two simple stretches to accompany the area worked. You will also recognise (at introductory level) basic precautions prior to giving and receiving massage. By the end of this course you should be able to: - Name the basic precautions and contraindications of massage ( at introductory level) for giver and receiver - Perform massage techniques using feet, hands, knees, elbows and thumbs - Perform a massage on the floor in side position - Perform one or two Yoga-type stretches to accompany the area worked. What level is the course and do I need any particular skills? Introductory level - no previous knoweldge required. You are required to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts. PRE-BODYWORK QUESTIONNAIRE The following list is to be used as a guide when deciding whether you wish to undertake a course in body work. We have strict guidelines as we aim to protect the health and safety of students in training and those they practise on during and after the course, whilst providing widest possible access. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake a bodywork course and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in a bodywork classcourse. - Epilepsy - Diabetes - An untreated medical condition - Spinal injuries - A recent operation - Severe skin disorders - Severe mental illness - On medication - Cardiovascular disorders (high blood pressure, severe varicose veins, heart problems, thrombosis) - Bone or joint disorders (Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis) - Pregnancy (or post natal) - Endocrine disorders - Knee Problems (for Shiatsu, Thai massage and introductory massage courses only) - Is there anything else we should know about your health before you enrol for a course? If there is, please let the Health & Movement Studies team know. If accepted onto a course, a student could be given alternative practical tasks and adjustments may be made where reasonable. However, a student could be asked to leave the course if any situation were to arise which could endanger the well being of that student, or any other student. It is for instance not suitable to work on another student, if you are taking medication that affects your concentration. How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class? Practical demonstrations, pair work, question and answer, wordstorming. Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring? Loose comfortable clothing to be worn (fully clothed) and socks where appropriate. A pen and a towel to cover the mat. You will also need to bring antiseptic wipes. Handouts will be provided. Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol? No. What feedback will I get? You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate.
