Course Description

Do you want to specialise in a new area of the law? Are you struggling to progress your career and want a way of boosting your skills and standing out?

This LLM in Legal Practice is designed for people like you. We’ll help you deepen your knowledge of an area of the law directly related to practice.

It’s the ideal way to develop detailed knowledge of a new area. It’s also an opportunity to delve deeper into your current specialism.

Building experience

You’ll learn about research methods. Then apply them in a dissertation or research project.

Choose an area of practical law that you’re interested in and benefit from the extensive skills and knowledge of our teaching team.

Flexible study

This top-up degree is for those who already hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC or BPTC/BVC).

We understand that many of our students on this course are working. That’s why you can choose to study part-time or via distance learning, as well as full-time.

You don’t have to be based in the UK. On the distance learning route you’ll have the same support from our dedicated tutors as our full-time students do.

Course Content

Our LLM in Legal Practice provides a top-up for qualified legal professionals, helping you to achieve a full masters qualification – and to open up new and exciting opportunities in your career.

We know that many of our students are working professionals, so while we offer our 1 year accelerated course, we also offer a 2 year part-time option. You can even complete the course via distance learning* – completing your masters from anywhere in the world.

You’ll pick an area of practical law that’s right for you – with the guidance of your tutors – whether it’s a topic that is relevant for your current job or a new area that you want to move into. You’ll then produce a research proposal before carrying out your research and producing a 15,000 word dissertation or research project.

Throughout the process, you’ll have the support of our expert teaching team, delivered in person, over the phone or email, or online for our distance learning students. And once you’ve finished, you’ll have a full masters qualification and the expert understanding to give your career a boost.

*Only the distance learning route will be suitable for international students.

Year 1

Instead of studying a list of units, this course includes only a Dissertation or Research Project. While you’ll spend some time learning about research methods, the topic is up to you – with the approval of the programme team. You’ll put together a research proposal, which is assessed, then carry out your research.
