The Durham DBA at Fudan is available as a four to six year, part-time programme, requiring attendance at the School of Economics, Fudan University, in a series of four-day blocks. It is intended for business graduates with appropriate business and management experience who wish to follow the doctoral route. The Durham DBA offers a stimulating environment where you can pursue your research agenda and so contribute to your own development and that of professional practice. You will be joining a very strong research community that offers you the opportunity to engage in lively debate, learn from academics and managers around the world, and receive constructive criticism. Furthermore, our electronic learning gateway called DUO enables you to engage in discussion with tutors and students, and access the considerable electronic journals and database collection from any where in the world. When you hold the Durham DBA you will take back to your organisation increased understanding and knowledge of today's complex business world. Course Structure The DBA has a more structured approach than the traditional part-time PhD. Stage 1: six core modules taught in a series of four day blocks over 2 years ? continuously assessed, mainly by 4,000 word essays. These taught courses help you identify and define the scope and nature of your research and will equip you with the necessary research skills and techniques to conduct the work successfully) ? Stage 2: seminar-style workshop where you will present your Transfer Document. ? Stage 3: individual supervised research and study to produce a 60,000 word thesis of doctoral standard During Stage 1 you are strongly encouraged to attend our annual Doctoral Colloquium. You will be expected to present at colloquia during Stage 3. Aims and Objectives of the Programme The overall aim of the Durham DBA course is best described by the Guidelines produced by the Association of Business Schools: The Doctorate of Business Administration is primarily designed to enable a significant contribution to the enhancement of professional practice in the business area through the application and development of theoretical frameworks. What Will You Gain? You will probably be an effective manager already. You may have thought you have learned as much as you can in your current position. The Durham DBA will suggest to you new platforms for developing cognitive, analytical and learning skills. You will find the Durham DBA helps you develop: in research techniques, the practical application of concepts, and you will find the process helps you to reflect and learn, and in doing so, considerably develop your practice. What Will Your Organisation Gain? It is probable that your research topic will have a direct relevance to your work situation so your organisation will benefit directly from it. Your DBA studies will enable you to match the real world data with management theory and thus enhance organisational understanding and development.
