Technical Certificates are qualifications that provide underpinning knowledge for the Children's Care, Learning and Development and Playwork Apprenticeship Programmes. They are delivered through a taught programme of off-the-job training sessions. In the Apprenticeship, the Technical Certificate is the Level 2 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) and Playwork. There are four units and you sit an external multi-choice test. In the Advanced Apprenticeship, the Technical Certificate is the Level 3 in CCLD. There are five units and sit an external multiple choice test. Also incorporated into the Apprenticeship framework is a 12 hour Paediactric First Aid course. What are key skills? Key Skills are the skills which are used in all jobs and industries. These are transferable skills from one industry to another. They are important to everyone in their working life. In Childcare there are two key skills: Communication: Taking in information by reading and listening providing information by speaking and writing. Application of Number: Being confident about using, interpreting and manipulating numbers quickly and accurately. Why key skills? Employers recognise the importance of key skills. They want people who can: Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing Handle calculations and budgets and use numbers effectively.
