Course Description

Access To HE Social Work Overview Access to HE is specifically designed for adults who have been out of formal education for some time, but want to enter university level courses. Description You will choose from a number of optional modules that vary according to your specific pathway. You will also undertake a number of core academic subjects that are designed to prepare you for the demands of higher level study. These are common to all Access pathways, with an emphasis on critical thinking, the techniques of written and spoken presentation, research skills, maths and IT. How long is the course? Our Access to HE courses can be studied within one academic year - approximately 500 hours of classtime. You'll study full-time, which will require you to attend between 12-15 hours of class per week on various days. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed on the assignments which are set regularly throughout the course. Some of these assignments will be completed under exam conditions but most will be completed in your own time. What will I study? CORE MODULES - Communications - Maths (Level 2) - ICT - Individual project in sociology or social policy - Work placment OPTIONAL MODULES (Choose three of the following) - Social policy - Equal opportunities - Law - Sociology - Psychology - History What does the course lead to? You could progress to a wide range of HE courses including: - BA (Hons) Social Work (NHS funded - specifically to train social workers) - BA (Hons) Youth Services - BA (Hons) Social Care, Health and Community Studies West Nottinghamshire College also offers the Foundation Degree in Children's and Young People's Services. How much does it cost? The course costs approximately ?200, which includes registration with CAVA (the awarding body). You may be eligible for remission of fees if you receive state benefits or if the Access course is your first Level 2 or 3 qualification. Get in touch for up-to-date fee information.
