Course Description

SOCIETY, HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT AS Level (Year One) Level 3 course Two year Progression higher education or employment Exam board Edxcel 20 periods a week Course outline This qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels. It consists of three components principle learning, generic learning and additional specialist learning. The principle learning aims to apply aspects of children and young people, community justice, health and social care. There are six compulsory units: The sectors in context Principles and values in practice Partnership working Communication and information sharing Personal and professional development in the work environment Safeguarding and protecting individuals in society Assessment Two of the units are externally assessed through a paper set by the exam board. The other units are assessed internally through portfolio assignments. Teaching styles The teaching of this course will be a collaboration between Regent College and Gateway College, as well as drawing on relevant employers and other providers in the city. This will ensure that you receive the highest standard of teaching and resources possible. All units of the course will encourage you to actively apply your knowledge and develop your skills. There will be a variety of case study evidence to work on to complete the key areas of the course, you will take part in discussions, presentations, role plays, and carry out independent research. Resources and facilities Students will use case study scenarios to build on and develop their knowledge.They will also undertake research using the internet and local employers and other services. The will have access to city wide resources such as city learning centres and local conferences and speakers. Key features Students will complete at least 20 days of work experience during their course, though will be expected to put their skills into practice in the local community wherever possible through visits, speakers and volunteering work. Students will also develop their wider skills through generic learning and also they will undertake an extended project, this will enable students to develop their own ideas and present this. Progression Upon completion, students can progress to a wide range of university courses and careers.
