Skills Academy for Health North West (NHS Academy ) Level 2 Awarding Body: City and Guilds Related Programme Areas: Work based Learning Health and Social Care Health Who is the programme for? The programme is suitable for students aged between 16 - 19 years who have completed statutory education. You must have evidence of having sat GCSEs or the vocational equivalent and can demonstrate an interest in health and care. Those not already in receipt of the required qualifications to enter their chosen health care profession must be successful at interview. All entrants will be subject to CRB checks. What will I study? This is a one year programme. The first 14 weeks will be dedicated to achieving a technical certificate in health and social care level 2 and key skills application of number and communication level 1. The remainder of the academic year is dedicated to achieving NVQ in health and social care level 2, continuing with key skills application of number, communication and introducing information technology. 14 Week Technical Certificate units include: Developing own knowledge and practice in a health and social care setting. Supporting the care, protection and well being of individuals in a health and social care setting. Communicating with and completing records for individuals in a Health and Social care setting. Understanding Health and Social Care practice in a Health and Social Care setting. the programme is unique in that it is run in partnership with the Skills Academy for Health North West and therefore allows students to gain unprecedented access to NHS placements. Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? The 14 week technical certificate is assessed by four individual units within the tech cert are assessed by a mixture of assignment , work book and role play. All units have assignments attached plus are subject to assessment of the required practical competencies demonstrated whilst in placement. Future prospects? Throughout the academic year the Skills Academy for Health North West careers team make regular contact with learners to advise them on career options. There are strong links with Staffing Solutions, (St Helens and Whiston Nurse Bank) who welcome applications from cadets. There are opportunities from the Nurse Bank route to access funding for level 3 NVQ. Students who demonstrate an academic aptitude are invited to apply for the BTEC Diploma within the umbrella of the Skills Academy for Health North West in partnership with St Helens College from here on successful completion of a further two year programme there will be guaranteed interviews for Edge Hill, LJMU and Chester universities to study for nursing and allied professions.
