Refrigeration Programme for Marine Engineering Personnel Specially formulated for marine personnel involved in service and maintenance of on-board refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. The course relates to all ship refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and is for team bookings only. The simple circuit and the state of the refrigerant throughout the circuit. System Components Condensers, evaporators, expansion devices and compressors etc. Plant Efficiency Recording system parameters and analysis of readings Refrigerants Identification. Health hazards. Storage. Alternative refrigerants. Environmental impact and current legislation: Montreal Protocol and Environmental Protection Act 1992. Safe working practices Breaking into refrigeration systems: Pipe bending, flaring and brazing. Pneumatic strength testing, system pressure testing. Leak detection methods. Evacuation principles and procedures. Refrigerant charging techniques. Refrigerant recovery methods. Retrofitting of new refrigerants Procedures for changing refrigerants. Oils. System balancing etc. System fault-finding Diagnosis of common operational faults using logical reasoning to symptoms observed. Maintenance routines To include adjustment of Back-pressure valves and correct setting of expansion valves on Multi-cooling room systems. Further Information An 8 day 'hands on' Programme in refrigeration practices designed to take the engineers involved through to assessment for City & Guilds 2078 Safe Handling of Refrigerants. Included is an overview of ship-borne refrigeration and air conditioning. Equipment including water-chilling, cabin comfort-cooling, frozen and chilled food storage.
