Course Description

The Prosthdontics MClinDent is a broad-based and progressive programme that comprises theoretical instruction, practical work and personal research. The Eastman offers two training pathways in fixed and removable prosthdontics a two calendar year MClinDent degree programme and the integrated three calendar year SAC-approved specialist training. What and how will I learn? Students gain practical experience in advanced conservation, fixed (conventionally prepared and resin-retained designs) and removable prosthodontics, and implant-supported prostheses for single missing teeth or partially edentulous cases, alongside an introduction to occlusal registration techniques and the range of diagnostic procedures required to ensure effective planning and design of oral reconstructions. Degree Structure Students undertake courses to the value of 360 credits. Year One: Core courses (165 credits). Year Two: Core courses (105 credits), dissertation (90 credits). Core Modules CORE COURSES INCLUDE: Clinical Science and Principles of Treatment Fundamentals of Fixed and Implant Prosthodontics Fundamentals of Removable Prosthodontics Prosthodontic Treatment Planning and Functional Occlusion Prosthodontic Clinical and Laboratory Care Interdisciplinary Aspects Of Restorative Treatment Prosthodontic Operative Dentistry & Endodontic Skills Dissertationreport All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of approximately 13,000-15,000 words. Options All courses are compulsory. Assessment is through mock written and practical examination, essays, internal graduate appraisal, supervised clinical work, oral presentation and the dissertation. The Prosthodontics MClinDent offers an intensive programme with a strong practical emphasis. Students benefit from first class facilities which provide unique, seamless training in specialist dentistry, including practical classes in the operative technique laboratory. Approximately two-thirds of the programme is allocated to clinical and laboratory work for patients. All candidates wishing to train on a programme leading to a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) must have a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience working as a registered dentist and be eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides appropriate written confirmation and attaches this to their application. Applicants who do not provide this confirmation will not be put forward for shortlisting.
