This programme is aimed at senior professionals who wish to develop their research-based knowledge and skills, and to apply them to solving problems in the professional sphere. The linkages between research-based knowledge and its application in a wide range of professional settings are central to this Doctorate. The nursing programme seeks to equip nurses with the practical research skills and the critical thinking ability demanded of those practitioners working at the forefront of their profession. The award is geared to nurses working in a variety of fields and aims to aid the dissemination, development and management of a range of professional practices and policy developments. The Doctorate in Nursing is a part-time programme that combines eight taught modules and a research project, which results in the submission of a doctoral thesis. The directed study entails three-day blocks of intensive teaching with supervised home-based study. Modules cover research skills training generic topics such as evidence-based policy, professions and professionalism, equality and diversity, and public-sector management and topics which are specialist to the nursing pathway. The research project may focus on any approved topic and is individually supervised by academic staff.
