Are you aware of stress among your work colleagues? How would you deal with a staff grievance caused by stress? Did you know that stress can lead to disability? A total of 13.5 million working days were lost to work-related stress, depression and anxiety in 2007/08. Developing a working environment that promotes good mental health and encouraging supportive and responsive management practices is a core part of sustainable employment practices. Whilst stress itself is not covered by the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), work-related stress is a leading occupational health problem in the UK. As stress related absence becomes more and more common, organisations need to understand what stress means and how to prevent and manage it in the workplace. This Hot Topic will be chaired by Rick Williams, EFD Associate and Director of Freeney Williams, and will include case studies from Bela Gor, Legal Director, Dr. Su Wang, Group Head of Health, Royal Mail Group will provide a member case study. A personal perspective of experiencing stress as an employee will be provided by Steve Walter, Making Connections Matter.
