Course Description

This is a part-time course to allow students with a specialised (ie would constitute ?specialised knowledge? in RTPI educational terms) Masters degree in planning to ?top up? their planning knowledge and complete a RTPI-accredited education, making them eligible (after two years of planning practice) for professional membership of the RTPI. It is specifically for those who have not taken a ?conversion? Masters degree to gain access to the UK planning profession. Suitable for: all graduates of the MSc Housing, MSc Transport and Planning, MSc Regeneration Studies, MSc Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy, MA Urban Design, and those with similar degrees from other accredited planning schools who did not do an undergraduate spatial planning degree. Offers knowledge and expertise: in the core of planning practice, including the nature, purpose and instruments of planning, planning land and development, and either spatial planning or site planning, design and development (depending on the content of the Masters degree). Duration: can be completed in eight months, with three modules spread over two semesters, or over three years taking one module per year, one day a week, or an intermediate combination. Assessment: a mix of projects, exercises, simulations, essays and other assignments are set across all three modules. Special features of this course: ? Available in a part-time mode one or two days a week, allowing students to work almost full-time, but still gain a qualification that can provide access to the UK planning profession. ? Students are taught alongside others doing a professional ?conversion? degree and special assistance is provided to help them manage their work.
