Foundation Degree Positive Practice with Children and Young People Course Overview This Lancaster University validated Foundation degree is intended to ensure that those students who wish to work with children and young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support their emotional development and stability. It combines underpinning academic knowledge and work-based learning and assessment to allow students to understand how current policy and trends inform the working environment. There is also the opportunity for students to engage in personal development and reflection to build their confidence and further their career opportunities. The programme can be completed in two years with attendance at college on one afternoonevening a week, though personal study is also a requirement of the course. What will I study? All students on the programme will study a common core of modules which include generic areas appropriate for all childcare workers before moving on to modules appropriate for three pathways: Residential Care, Day Care, Working with Families and Carers. There is a strong vocational bias and students will either be currently working in the ChildYouth Work field or be expected to undertake relevant work experience. All students will undertake Professional Development and Research modules throughout the two years of study, which provide valuable and transferable critical, analytical and reflective skills. Modules can include Year 1 Values and Principles of Childcare practice Interpersonal & Counselling Skills Child development Research Methods Personal and Professional Development 3 Option Modules Year 2 Social Policy and Legislation Child Protection Developmental Psychology Research Project Work Based Learning 3 Option Modules Optional modules can include: Mediation & Counselling Working with Groups Supporting Families through Change Working with Abuse Promoting Positive Behaviour Youth Offending Course Requirements One A Level - (40 Points) minimum E Grade or equivalent Level 3 qualificationrelevant professional or related childcare qualifications Mature applicants with no formal qualifications will be invited for an interview where they will be expected to demonstrate how their experience and aptitude in this field would enable them to benefit from this programme Don't have the grades to get on the course?
