Course Description

Physics is a key science that deals with how things behave and why they behave the way they do. It includes such topics as heat, light, energy, quantum phenomena, waves, oscillations, fields, materials, magnetism, electricity, electronics, radioactivity, sound, mechanics, stars . It is concerned with objects that range in size from fundamental particles to the whole Universe! One noteworthy feature of this specification is that it aims to relate physics to real-life situations such as archaeology, medicine, etc. Physics lessons involve a variety of activities experiments, poster-making, internet searches, discussions, presentations, etc designed to lead you to a fuller understanding of the theory. Practice questions are also an important part of the learning process. 80% of the AS - Level (and the full A Level) is assessed by examinations and 20% by coursework. The AS and A2 pieces of coursework are both experimental reports. You sit two exam papers at the end of the first year and two at the end of the second year.
