Course Description

This two year accelerated route is available to graduates that have already completed an honours degree, preferably in a health-related subject and want to pursue a career in nursing. Depending on your choice of pathway, this course leads to either ? Postgraduate Diploma Nursing Studies ? Adult Nursing (UCAS code 3010) ? Postgraduate Diploma Nursing Studies ? Mental Health Nursing (UCAS code 3110) After completing the course, you are able to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a qualified nurse. Practice-based learning is central to your development and you spend 52 weeks of your course on placement. You gain experience in a diverse range of practice settings in your chosen area of nursing, such as caring for with acutely ill adults in their own homes. On your placements, you will be assigned a qualified and experienced nurse as a mentor. They support you and make sure you are comfortable in your surroundings, so you make the most of the experience. Placements are across South Yorkshire and the Humber, in some of the UK?s leading healthcare providers. If you study adult nursing you work with old and young adults with critical and acute health care needs. Adult nurses assist with longer term and palliative care requirements. Work may be based in hospital wards, clinics or community settings. If you study mental health nursing you care for people with mental health problems, helping them to live their lives as normally as possible. Work may be based in people's homes, residential units and health centres. During the first eight months, you also gain insight in to other branches of nursing. We base our nursing courses at our Collegiate Crescent Campus, which is centered on the modern, ?13 million, purpose-built Robert Winston building. It has teaching rooms that reproduce the work environment of hospitals and other related settings. These complement our latest teaching and clinical equipment and technology. After you graduate from this course, you will have the clinical nursing knowledge and the interpersonal and management skills, vital for effective patient care. A career in nursing is stimulating, rewarding, and holds no boundaries. UK trained nurses have the potential to work all over the world. You also have opportunities to specialise in the areas of nursing you are most interested in.
