Course Description

This programme is designed for mature students (aged 21 or over). Applicants will be assessed on individual experience and will be expected to demonstrate an ability to study at Higher Education level. Applicants under the age of 21 years should possess one of the following qualifications or equivalent: BTEC National CertificateDiploma in Care, Health studies or a related subject, or one six unit A Level, or Kite marked Access to HE. Accreditation for Prior (Experiential) Learning will be considered. Typical core modules will cover: Personal and Professional Development # Effective Communication # Current Issues in Health and Social Care # Sociology of Health # Legislation and Social Policy # Public Health # Research Methods # Social and Developmental Psychology Typical optional modules include: Mental Health # Disability # Working with Older People # Alternative Approaches to Health # Anatomy and Physiology # Nutrition # Quality in Health and Care Services. This foundation degree is designed to provide structured progression to heath care and social care professionals. This course will enhance the professional capabilities of health and social care practitioners with particular emphasis on professional practice and reflective study. Method of study: Students are encouraged to link theories with practice which will be continually assessed within their professional practice portfolio.
