Awarding Body Assessment & Qualifications Alliance Course Content Logical thought and understanding of concepts are involved in this course. The development of problem solving skills, powers of analysis and evaluation techniques prepares students for relevant areas of future study. Physics and scientific enquiry are used to solve problems and to stimulate an awareness of the social, technological, environmental and economic impact of Physics in present-day society. Course Features Text books dedicated to our AQA specifications are made available to students. Students are encouraged to develop an enthusiasm and interest in Physics by wider reading of books, magazines & Internet sites and will have opportunities to give presentations on modern topics. Examples and problems are often related to the real world we live in. Lessons are supported with demonstrations, video clips and individual practical work. Homework is a regular feature of this programme. Career Prospects and Progression A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to courses such as degrees or Higher National qualifications. There is a number of careers directly related to Physics including Teaching, Engineering, Nuclear Medicine, Electronics, Development Engineering and Industrial Research. Careers where the skills developed through Physics might be useful include Forensic Scientist, Geologist, Chemist, Operational Research or Medical Sales Representative. In both lists, only a few of the potential careers are mentioned Modules AS PH1 - Particles, Quantum Phenomena & Electricity PH2 - Mechanics, Materials & Waves PH3 - Investigative & Practical Skills A2 PH4 - Fields & Further Mechanics PH5 - Nuclear Physics, Thermal Physics & Optional Topic PH6 - Investigative & Practical Skills. Method of Assessment Written examinations for PH1, PH2, PH4 and PH5. PH3 & PH6 are practical examinations. Course Length AS - 1 Year Full A Level - 2 Years Time of Delivery Daytime Campus Graig Campus Bilingual Provision This course can be studied in English only Entry Requirements Normally students of 16 -19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C to enter the A level programme.
