Stage 2: Ocular Anatomy and Pathology, Visual Optics, Theory of Low Vision and Contact Lenses, Ophthalmic Lenses, Vocational Ophthalmic Dispensing and Professional Practice. Work PlacementFieldwork The course will include work-based learning. Course Overview This excellent part-time course covers all parts of the ABDO Syllabus, teaches you the core competencies of the General Optical Council and will fully prepare you to successfully take the ABDO Professional Qualifying Examinations to become a registered Dispensing Optician. Course Structure This course covers all parts of the ABDO Syllabus, delivers the core competencies of the General Optical Council and will prepare you to successfully take the ABDO Professional Qualifying Examinations to become a registered Dispensing Optician. You must register with the General Optical Council (GOC) and the Association of Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). There are also additional fees for the ABDO professional examinations. Learning Methods Our challenging learning methods include: lectures, presentations, work placement, research, reports and calculations. Assessment Your modules will be assessed by a range of methods including: practical reports, written course work and timed examinations. Assessed grades are subject to external moderation. Entry Requirements Five GCSEs at Grade A*-C including Mathematics, English and Science, 60 UCAS points from GCE Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics or relevant work experience to be discussed at interview. You need to be employed by a Registered Optician. What`s Next? Dispensing Optician in a private practice, in the NHS or in a large multiple organisation. Management position in an organisation. Employment with lens and frame manufacturers. Further study on BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Dispensing with Management degree. You may not have to pay course fees - please see our financial support pages.
