NVQs In Engineering Level 2 - Performing Engineering Operations C>EMPclose What does the course involve? You will study a range of NVQ units, including the following: - Working safely in an engineering environment Working effectively and efficiently in engineering Using and communicating technical information Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques Using lathes for turning operations. Producing electrical/electronic/mechanical drawings using AutoCAD You will also study associated skills, such as workshop calculations and drawing. Key skill assessments will also take place to ensure support is given to the following essential skills: Numeracy, Literacy, Communication and IT. What is the qualification and how is it gained? This is a competence-based, multi-skilled qualification that will provide a nationally recognised qualification (City & Guilds), and help open the door to further education, Apprenticeships or employment. How will the course be taught? You will learn and develop your skills through a mixture of lessons, demonstrations, assignments and practical tasks in the College workshops for about 75% of your time. The rest of the time will be spent in the classroom, learning skills such as drawing, calculations, workshop technology and other essential skills. If possible, work experience will be set up for you to gain some valuable experience in industry. Visits to local employers may also be planned. You will be assessed through a combination of competence (practical and underpinning knowledge) assignments. You will be guided to produce a portfolio of evidence to show your competence and understanding of the qualification. What skills will be taught? You will be assessed on a variety of practical Engineering skills which includes: Health and Safety Communication Technical Drawing Machining Hand Fitting AutoCAD drawing methods and techniques What progression routes are available? This qualification can lead to progression on to the Technical Certificate at Level 2 (City & Guilds 2800) on a Part-Time basis here at Eastleigh College. What should students bring to the first class? You will need to provide suitable overalls and safety shoes for the course, and these must always be worn during practical activities in the workshops to ensure safety is maintained. Technical drawing instruments and a calculator will also need to be purchased within the first term. Are there any other costs involved? No How many weeks will the course run for? The course runs for a duration of 36 weeks Can students join at any time? The course starts from the second week in September and thus students are required to enrol before this date Entry Requirement This one year part time course is designed to entice those with either a keen interest in general engineering, but little or no practical experience, or for those wishing to complete a vocational qualification as part of their Apprenticeship framework. There are no formal qualifications required for entry onto the PEO2 qualification. However, you will need to demonstrate your interest and commitment to study and we may ask that you provide good references, attainment reports, attendance reports from School or previous College/learning provider and complete a successful interview in College.
