Part Time NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care Course Code: B About This Course This programme is for young people who wish to work with in a health and social care setting such as in residential or domiciliary care, or other community support of vulnerable adults, in a role such as senior carer or key worker. The duration of the course is approximately 12-15 months. Is previous experience necessary? The learner must have achieved NVQ Level 2 in this subject, or be employed in a health and social care environment in a role involving planning and implementation, and supervision of staff. How will the course be delivered? The workplace will provide opportunities for the learner to gather evidence to include in a portfolio. The course consists of four mandatory core units plus four optional ones chosen from a range of different units. Learners will be supplied with materials that will enable them to progress in a planned way between assessor visits. What will I learn? The mandatory units are as follows - Promote effective communication for and about individuals - Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment - Reflect on and develop your practice The fourth unit, depending on the learner's chosen pathway (i.e. Children and Young People OR Adults) is either of the following - Promote the protection and well-being of children and young people - Promote the protection and well-being of all individuals Examples of optional units from each pathway include Adults - Contribute to care planning and review - Carry out screening and referral assessment (generic - can be applied to either pathway) - Help individuals address their substance abuse through an action plan Children and Young People - Care for and protect babies - Support families in their own home - Contribute to the prevention and management of challenging behaviour in children and young people - Support individuals to communicate using technology (generic - can be applied to either pathway) The choice of optional units should reflect the learner's job description. Do I receive a qualification? On completion of the course the learner will receive an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care. What should I bring? NA - the course is undertaken primarily at the workplace. Whats next? The learner can progress to NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, and then onto Higher Education or further on in their chosen career. How do I enrol? The assigned assessor will arrange to visit the learner to fill out with them the necessary documents in order to sign them up. Before commencing the programme, all applicants will take part in a short initial exercise designed to confirm the level of programme appropriate to their needs and whether they need any additional support with specific aspects. The employer, the assessor and the learner will then agree a training plan. Are there any extra costs? There are no extra costs involved. Course Location Workplace
