Course Description

NVQ 3 Plumbing & Heating On Site Assessment What does the course involve? The course is mainly theory based,and provides a detailed range of plumbing skills. These include Design, Installation and Fault Finding. There is also an option to study Gas Technology (ACS), Unvented Storage Hot Water (BBA) or Oil (OFTEC). What is the qualification and how is it gained? NVQ 3 is gained by compiling a personal portfolio of completed competencies. These will be assessed by one of our qualified assessors. How will the course be taught? Learning takes place in the workplace, classroom and workshop. Students will take part and contribute in theory lessons, and then have the opportunity to consolidate this learning hands-on in the workplace. The practical work is essential, and enables you to gain concrete experience in the workplace. It will also provide evidence of competence. What skills will be taught? On completion of the course students will be able to install, commission and maintain hot and cold water systems, sanitation equipment i.e. bathroom suite, and associated drainage, and be trained to industry standard in one of the options. N.B. Assessment of the option may be actual ACS, BBA or OFTEC, for which there will be a charge. What progression routes are available? Students may progress on to National Certificate in Building Services Engineering. What should students bring to the first class? For theory sessions you will need a pen, pencil, ruler, calculator and a notebook or file. For practical sessions you will need a tape measure, some overalls and safety footwear. Are there any other costs involved? There will be a small charge if students wish to be trained to industry standard in ACS, BBA or OFTEC. How many weeks will the course run for? 35 weeks for two years (day release). Can students join at any time? Normal intake is September.
