Course Description

Designed for those students who want to pursue a career in agricultural engineering, this course examines a wide range of agricultural machinery and provides skills which can be transferred into more mainstream engineering. You will benefit from our industry experienced tutors and gain an understanding of the skills needed for technical support in the engineering sector. By the end of the course you will have developed a number of practical skills and be well equipped to influence engineering in the future. Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, preferably in Mathematics, English and Science. First Diploma at Merit or above. Location Hadlow Course Duration Full time: 2 years, 4 days per week Course Content Year 1 Land-based vehicle engine technology Mechanical power transmission Land-based vehicle chassis systems Principles of hydraulics and pneumatics in land-based technology Diagnosis and rectification of complex faults in land-based vehicles Health, safety and welfare in land-based technology 4WD vehicle (maintenance, operation and recovery) Principles of land-based machinery Investigative project for land-based technology Key skills Year 2 Land-based vehicle transmissions Land-based machinery operations Land-based machinery (cultivation and planting machinery) Land-based machinery (application equipment) Computer application and control in land-based technology Applications of vehicle science and mathematics Land-based machinery management Land-based workshop practices Work related experience in land-based technology Key skills Assessment Method Written assignments and practical assessments. Progression Routes Successful students can progress onto a degree level course in agriculture or other related subjects. Alternatively they may wish to enter industry. Specialist Equipment Needed You will need steel toe-capped boots, wellington boots, waterproof clothing, Hadlow College overalls and a calculator.
