Part Time Nail Services - Level 2 How & what will I learn? With this hands-on programme you will learn the following aspects of nail technology: v Unit G1 - Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety v Unit G4 - fulfil salon reception duties v Unit G6 - Promote additional products and services to clients v Unit G8 - Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work v Unit BT7 - Provide manicure treatment v Unit BT8 - Provide pedicure treatment v Unit BT13 - Provide nail art services v Unit BT44 - Extend, maintain and repairs nails (Acrylic) This programme will be delivered by tutor input, demonstration, practical sessions, commercial salon work, open learning packages, assignment, assessment and portfolio building. All three nail systems may be demonstrated but you will specialise in acrylic only. Products used will be by Creative Nail Design, your own kit will be required and must be ordered and paid for in full before the start of the course with Creative Nail Design, kit order forms will be sent on successful completion at interview. Qualifications needed to start You will need to have 4 A-D GCSE's or equivalent and you will also need to show commitment by successfully completing an interview. Initial Assessment At your interview you will be required to undertake an initial assessment in Literacy and Numeracy. To attend a level 2 course you should achieve at least level 1 on these assessments. Should you not achieve this an informed decision will be made depending on the actual result. What qualification will I gain? Level 2 In Nail Services (nail technician) Progression on completion & career opportunities On successful completion you can work in the industry or undertake further study of NVQ Level 3 in Nail services. You could also pursue a career in cruise ships, teaching and training or salon management. Will I have to take an exam? You will be continuously assessed through observation of practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written tests (independent assessments). The assessments will take place when you feel ready, although we do encourage assessment if we you have reached the necessary level of competence. How long does the course last? The course is a full time courses and will run the full year (34 weeks) over 3 days a week, we also run on a part time basis for 33 weeks starting in September 1 evening a week for mature learners. What next? If you are interested in this subject you need to complete an application form and return it to the admissions team, if you are a successful applicant, you will be invited to attend an interview and enrolment session and if you are successful at this stage a place will be offered to you. Our Resources We have a commercial working salon at both our campuses. The program includes induction week followed by tutor input and practical sessions, open learning packages, personal tutorials for extra support and key skills. Whilst studying with us we want to make your time here as enjoyable and trouble-free as possible. Other information to consider v If you are aged between 16-19, this course if free v If you are over 19 and studying your first level 2 qualification, this course could be free. There are some additional costs which will need to be considered: Nail services equipment kit (Creative Nail Design) Tunic top and trousers Trade exhibition fees (optional) VTCT lifelong registration (if not already registered) All our courses require enthusiasm, motivation and commitment, you will also be required to do some work outside of college and you must be committed to doing this.
