Microbiology Foundation Degree (FdSc) (Part Time) Foundation Degree (Levels 4 and 5) Programme Code: SSHFD Awarding Body: University of Salford Related Programme Areas: LABORATORY Science Biology Who is the programme for? The programme is aimed primarily at those who are employed in an area of microbiology and are seeking to enhance their qualifications. The programme is also suitable for the employed who wish to enter into one of the many fields of applied microbiology such as medical, food, or industrial microbiology. What will I study? You will be studying the following modules: * Principles of Microbiology * Data Analysis * Basic Biochemistry * Microbial Physiology * Food Microbiology * Medical Microbiology * Project * Personal and Academic Development * Learning at Work * Parasitology * Industrial Microbiology * Microbial Lab Techniques * Immunology * Microbial Genetics Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? Assessments are continuous by a range of methods including assignments, portfolios, projects, case studies, poster presentations, practical exercises and examinations. Future prospects? On completion of the programme you will be equipped to work in a microbiology-related role in a wide variety of careers including the food, pharmaceutical, brewing, cosmetics, water and agricultural industries. Alternatively, you may wish to continue studying at Salford University on Year 3 of an Honours degree in Applied Biosciences. When will the programme start? The programme will start in September 2010. How long will it take? Attendance of one day per week is required: Year 1 Thursday 10am - 8pm (30 weeks), Year 2 Wednesday 10am - 8pm (30 weeks). What about the Money? St Helens College is committed to providing value for money higher education programmes, therefore programme fees for Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees for 2010/11 will be 2,100* per year for full time programmes.
