BEng and BEng (Hons) Mechatronics Course Overview The word mechatronics was coined in 1969 to mean the integration of precision mechanical engineering with electronics engineering. The Mechatronics degree combines practical skills together with the essential elements of mechanical, electronic, control and intelligent systems. Mechatronics is a field with a future - exciting career opportunities and a huge range of applications: Robotics, Manufacturing, Automation, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace, Health and Medical, Leisure & Entertainment and many more. What will I study? In the first year you will study underpinning engineering knowledge and also gain a HNC qualification. The second year includes dynamics, electronics, control and electromechanical systems. The final year includes advanced electronics and intelligent system design. Students will be involved in mechatronic design and development projects throughout the course. Modules can include Group Project Mechanical & Electrical Dynamics Research Project Electro-Mechanical Systems Design Further Mathematics & Applications Professional Issues Advanced Level Project Power Electronics Electronic Circuit Applications Course Requirements You need 160 UCAS points, with the majority obtained in relevant subjects such as Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics Applicants with between 80 and 160 UCAS points are advised to apply either for the HND Mechanical Engineering course or for the HND Electrical / Electronic Engineering course. It is possible to progress from either of these courses onto the BEng (Hons) Mechatronics degree course If you already have Higher Education experience then it is possible to join the second or third year of the course. Don't have the grades to get on the course? Don't worry; Blackburn College provide full and part time top-up courses. Progression Work as a graduate in the commissioning, nuclear decommissioning, project management, safety, aerospace, and other related engineering sector. Go on to further study at postgraduate level.
