Maths Catch Up What does the course involve? Students will work on: Number Number system and calculations Estimation, use of calculator, fractions, decimals, percentages, as well as the four rules of number (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Measure, Shape & Space Money, Time, Temperature Distance, Length, Weight Capacity, Perimeter, Area & Volume, and Shape and Position Handling Data Data and Statistical Measures & Probability What is the qualification and how is it gained? The City & Guilds Certificate in Adult Numeracy (3792) at Entry Level (Entry 1-3) and Levels 1 and 2. This is a new qualification based on a framework of national standards for numeracy and a core curriculum to enable learners to reach those standards. How will the course be taught? Students will be assessed by the Maths tutor and will follow a programme of study at a suitable level and at their own pace. Students study both individually and in a group. In most groups, there is a volunteer tutor to provide extra support for students and to help them to learn effectively. What skills will be taught? Students gain confidence in all areas of basic maths and improve their skills for work and everyday life. They also gain a City & Guilds qualification the Certificate in Adult Numeracy (3792) at Entry Level or Levels 1 and 2. What progression routes are available? Students will be able to progress to the next level of the Certificate in Adult Numeracy (3792) or to GCSE Maths, or to another vocational course at an appropriate level. This course is recommended for adults who wish to enrol in the Access to Higher Education Course and who need to achieve a GCSE Maths qualification. See also LEARNDIRECT courses.
