Work PlacementFieldwork Work-based learning is integral to your course. Course Overview This course opens up the fascinating and diverse world of Make-up Artistry and Special Make-up Effects. Each of the specialist areas within the Make-up and Special Effects industry are covered, giving you the chance to learn the tricks of the trade and gain a broad experience across this respected, highly competitive and demanding profession. Course Structure The course consists of a wide range of different practices. These include: make-up for film, television (including high definition), theatre, print, catwalk, editorial and bridal. We also offer casualty simulations, historicalfashion make-up, air-brushing, postiche work, sculpting, casting, laminating, creature design and fabrication, advanced prosthetics using silicone injections, cast preparations in fibreglass and other materials. Other disciplines include: basic hairstyling, photography, digital manipulation of images, script and character breakdown, continuity, product development and portfolio building. We offer you professional working practices and Health & Safety, and a wide range of educational visits. Learning Methods Our programme of study is designed to challenge you both intellectually and creatively, and combines a number of teaching strategies ranging from lectures and seminars to practical demonstrations, portfolio building, group critiques, live projects and study visits. Assessment We use a variety of assessment techniques, reflecting the nature of both the practical and theoretical elements of the programme. Entry Requirements You will need one A Level at Grade C or above, NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy or a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or the equivalent. What`s Next? On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to the BA (Hons) Make-up Effects and Artistry and challenge yourself further. You may be ready to start in the industry on a freelance basis.
