Level 2 Health and Social Care Workshop Sessions A Part Time Programme of Study This programme is for people who currently work in a Health and Social Care setting. The teaching sessions provide detailed information for the four NVQ units. The NVQ will require you to produce evidence which shows that you are competent in a range of skills and have sufficient knowledge to support your performance. Assessments will take place in your work setting. This is a rolling programme and has various start dates throughout the year. What do I need to join the programme? There are no academic entry requirements, but you must be currently working in a Health and Social Care setting. Admission will be by interview and individual guidance will be given in relation to the right level and award. Each applicant will be required to complete a skills analysis. What will I do on the programme? You will be expected to attend 3.5 hour workshop sessions on a weekly basis. The training sessions cover the knowledge needed to complete the assignments for the Level 2 certificate and the underpinning knowledge needed for the NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care. The Level 2 certificate is made up of four units. To complete the award all of the units need to be completed. During the training sessions you will gain knowledge in relation to the following: - Unit 001: Developing own knowledge and practice in a health and social care setting. - Unit 002: Supporting the care, protection and well-being of individuals in a health and social care setting - Unit 003: Communicating with and completing records for individuals in a health and social care setting - Unit 004: Understanding health and safety practice in a health and social care setting. You will complete assignments to complete your portfolio. The NVQ award is made up of six units, four of which are mandatory and two optional. The range of option units available allows candidates to select units which match their role at work. During the training sessions you will gain knowledge in relation to the mandatory units: - Unit HSC21: Communicate with and complete records for individuals - Unit HSC22: Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals - Unit HSC23: Develop your own knowledge and practice - Unit HSC24: Ensure your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals How will I be assessed? You will collect evidence of experience and competence during regular working practice, and complete a portfolio of work.You will be assessed in the workplace on a regular basis. Your Level 2 certificate will be assessed on completion of the unit assignments. For your NVQ Level 2 you will be assigned an assessor who will directly observe your practical work in the workplace and who will provide feedback on your developing skills. What can I do at the end of the programme? You may be able to progress onto the NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care award. You may also be able to apply for senior carer roles within health and social care.
