Laboratory Operations and Management Foundation Degree (FdSc) (Part Time) Foundation Degree (Levels 4 and 5) Programme Code: NEW COURSE Awarding Body: Edge Hill Universtiy Related Programme Areas: SCIENCE LABORATORY HIGHER EDUCATION Who is the programme for? The programme is aimed primarily at those who are currently employed as a laboratory technician, probably in the laboratories of an educational institution, and who are seeking to enhance their qualifications. Those who are not currently employed in this sector, but would like a career change, may also be considered. What will I study? You will be studying the following modules: Anatomy and Physiology; Microbiology; Introductory General Chemistry; Laboratory Techniques; Laboratory Management; Core Skills; Energy and Human Demand; Research in Science; Analytical Techniques; Themes in Biology; Chemical Structure and Reactivity; The Earth in Space; Work-related Project Entry to the Programme? How is it assessed? Assessments are continuous by a range of methods including assignments, portfolios, projects, case studies, poster presentations, laboratory work and examinations. Future prospects? On completion of the programme you will be equipped to work at a more senior level in scientific technical support. Alternatively, you may wish to continue studying at Edge Hill University on an Honours degree in Integrated Sciences. When will the programme start? The programme will start in September 2010 How long will it take? Attendance is on one afternoon and evening per week for 3 years, starting in September. What about the Money? St Helens College is committed to providing value for money higher education programmes, therefore programme fees for Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees for 2010/11 will be 2,100* per year for full time programmes. How do I apply? Complete an application form and return it to Student Services, you will then be asked to attend College for an interview. Campus Address: Town Centre Campus Entry Requirements You should have a Level 3 qualification in an appropriate area of Science such as: * 2 A/S levels one of which must be in an appropriate subject area; * 1 A level in an appropriate subject area; * an Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject; * BTEC National Certificates, Diplomas in Science; * AVCE in Science; * Applied A level in a relevant subject; relevant NVQ 3 qualifications; * City and Guilds (Advanced) Technicians Certificate. Mature students with professional qualifications and relevant work experience will be considered for the programme.
