Course Description

Intermediate Diploma in Medical Reception Work What you will study This course is suitable if you're looking to achieve an appropriate qualification to enter Reception work in Hospitals, General Medical or Dental Practices, Opticians or Health Authorities. The course is divided into four core modules: Module 1 This module is concerned with Health and Social Services available to the public and legal aspects relating to medical reception work. Module 2 This module is concerned with office procedures, clerical duties and the personal and practical skills necessary for medical reception duties. Module 3 This module is concerned with the medical aspect of the work, Medical Terminology, Health Education and First Aid. Module 4 This module is based on work experience and is concerned with the practical application of the knowledge and understanding of modules 1-3. The work experience for full-time students is a minimum of 30 hours which will be arranged to fit around your college attendance. As a full-time student you will also study Word and Text processing and the European Computer Driving Licence to ensure you're well-equipped for employment. Who the course is for This course is useful if you're looking to become a receptionist in any section of the Health service, this will include General Medical and Dental Practices, Hospitals (including ward and medical records clerks), Opticians and Health Authority Staff. The course is suitable if you have no previous experience but are keen to obtain the knowledge and skills to enter this type of employment. How you will study The taught sessions will include a combination of classroomIT suite settings as appropriate, using discussion, exercises, activities, worksheets, assignments, direct instructions, lecture sessions, videos etc, according to the material being taught. How you will be assessed The course is assessed through three written examinations (one hour each) and through four nationally set assignments. There will also be a series of centre tests for the additional qualifications available. Qualification Title Intermediate Diploma in Medical Reception Course Length The course will be held over 2 full days and 2.5 days per week (Total of 4.5 days per week). Part-Time could be arranged from September to June. Home study will form an integral part of the course. Course Availability The course is available at the following campus(es): Rhos-on-Sea Abergele Entry Guidelines There are no formal entry requirements though you must be aged 18 or over at the start of the course. A reasonable standard of written English is needed. Your Options After the Course Once you've completed the course you could go onto study for the Advanced Diploma for Medical Secretaries or go into employment as a Receptionist in a variety of Health related areas.
