Awarding Body University of Wales Aberystwyth UCAS code:C22, Route A , Route B Course Content This part-time course gives comprehensive training for those entering practical farming, farm management and agricultural service industries such as Nutritionists, Consultants, Farm Welfare Inspectors, and Agricultural Supply Merchants. Course Features The HNC/HND is provided on a part-time basis, allowing students to combine employment with higher education. The course is modular; and students can gain certification for any successful completed modules. Results for this course are very good and students on successful completion of the HND, may progress to the degree programme at the Institute of Rural Sciences, University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Career Prospects and Progression The aim of the College is to provide realistic theoretical and practical training for those whose intentions it is to enter the industry as farmers, enterprise managers and farm managers or to work in the agricultural service industries. The BTEC Higher National Certificate is recognised as a vocational alternative qualification compared to A-levels, if students wish to progress to the HND or Degree. Modules Modules: Agricultural Industry, Animal Production Systems, Animal Science, Rural Resource Use, Soil Conditions and Plant Growth, Plant and Crop Science, Agricultural Ecology, Crop and Grassland Management, Food, Farming and the Environment, Advanced Computing in Agriculture, Animal Nutrition, Business Planning and Control, Animal Health, Industry Placement, Crop and Livestock Mechanisation. Method of Assessment Student performance is monitored by assignments, continuous assessment, practical work, end of module assessment and completion of a major project. Course Length HNC 2 Years plus 1 Semester, followed by HND 1 year plus 1 semester. Day Release studied part time. Time of Delivery Daytime Campus Gelli Aur Campus Bilingual Provision Students can use Welsh with their tutor and submit assignments in Welsh Entry Requirements For the HNC students will need adequate practical experience and a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or other equivalent qualifications or a mature student with suitable experience.
