Part Time Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 How & what will I learn? With this hands-on programme you will learn the following aspects of hairdressing: How to ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety Salon reception duties How to give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation Advising and consulting with clients How to cut hair using basic techniques How to shampoo and condition hair and scalp How to style, dress and finish hair How to change hair colour Promote additional products and services to clients The programme will be delivered by tutor input, demonstration, practice, commercial salon work, open learning packages, assignment and assessment. It is a requirement from the Standards Setting Body (HABIA) and approved by the Regulatory Authority (QCA) that Independent Assessments be undertaken and requiring the same 100% competence level of the NVQ. This will be further explained to you by your tutor on induction and consists of written test papers with an option for oral questioning at the discretion of the tester. Key Skills Qualification All learners will be expected to achieve additional Key Skills Qualifications including: Application of Number, Communications and IT. Induction At the beginning of the September term, the Induction programme is held. This could include subject tasters, Library induction and the issuing of relevant paperwork. It will also provide the opportunity for individual time tabling. Tutorial Programme The tutorial programme is mandatory and supports students throughout their studies. It is also a time when guest speakers visit. How long does the course last? The course runs for 1 academic year Will I have to take an exam? You will be continuously assessed through observation of practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written tests (Independent Assessments). The assessments will take place when you feel ready, although we do encourage assessment if we feel you have reached the necessary level of competence What qualification will I gain? VTCT Level 2 Hairdressing Progression on completion & career opportunities On successful completion you can work in the industry or undertake further study of VTCT Level 3 in Hairdressing, which could lead to television, film, theatre work or cruise ships. You could also pursue a career in teaching and training or salon management. Other information to consider All of our courses require enthusiasm, motivation and commitment. You will be required to do some work outside of college and you must be committed to doing this and you are also required to have a work placement for at least 1 day per week. There are some additional costs which will need to be considered: Hairdressing kit - ?189 Tunic top and trousers - ?23 - ?45 Please not those prices may vary. Qualifications needed to start You will need to have 4 D-G GCSE's or equivalent or a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification. How do I apply? This course requires an interview Once you have completed your application form, return it to us using the freepost address provided on the form and we will contact you to arrange an interview. At your interview you will meet course tutors, complete an initial assessment and be advised how, if you are successful, you should enrol later in the year. What are the fees? If you are aged 16-18, this course is free If you are over 19 and studying your first full Level 2 qualification, this course would be free. Please contact us for more details. If you are aged between 16 and 19, you can apply for EMA and receive up to ?30 a week. If you are aged over 19, you can apply for an Adult Learning Grant and receive up to ?30 a week.
