Course Description

Glass Engraving All Levels What does the course involve? Beginners will be introduced first to hand engraving, and a little later to the basics of drill engraving. They will then with guidance be able to select a specialism. More experienced engravers will receive help in specialist areas. The use of different types of stone, polishing in problem areas etc. All students will receive help and guidance, with designing for glass and encouragement to track a variety of subjects and objects. What is the qualification and how is it gained? A College Certificate will be awarded on request. How will the course be taught? Learning will be through: A. Principally practical experience working on own projects. B. Watching practical demonstrations by tutor on a wide variety of subjects and objects. C. Occasional blackboard sessions when theory will be discussed. What skills will be taught? You will be able to produce a basic piece of hand engraving in stipple and/or line. You will be able to produce a basic piece of drill work. What progression routes are available? As the courses cater for all abilities students are able to extend their learning with the group. Many have chosen to apply to join guild of glass engravers and to sit a craft assessment for craft membership enabling them to take part in national exhibitions. What should students bring to the first class? Notebook. Piece of black fabric or card. Jam jar or piece of window glass. Are there any other costs involved? Students will be responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course. Students will need to supply their own glass. In the first instance basic tools are provided once a student decides to continue with engraving they will need to buy a basic tool kit. How many weeks will the course run for? 2 Terms Can students join at any time? Yes.
