How to Apply/Enrol Contact Student Advisers to arrange a pre-enrolment assessment Course Outline GCSE Maths is an essential qualification for many students. This course is a 1 year (fast track). We offer AQA modular syllabus which is varied and practical, covering: Using and Applying Maths, Data Handling, Shape, Space & Measures and Algebra. Profile The fast track (1 year) course starts in September and prepares students to complete AQA GCSE modular maths at Intermediate level (grades B-E) by the following June. There are 5 separate modules: Module 1: Handling Data - Two written exams (calculator and non-calculator) (11%) usually taken in March Module 2: Coursework - A Handling Data investigation to be completed by January10%) Module 3: Number - Two written exams (calculator and non-calculator) (19%) again usually taken in March Module 4: Coursework - An investigation based Algebra and/or Shape, Space and Measures (10%) to be completed Module 5: Algebra, Shape, Space and Measures - Two written exams; one non-calculator and one calculator (50%) taken in June Additional Information Students are required to purchase the recommended textbook and are expected to have a scientific calculator, ruler, protractor and pair of compasses (details from course tutor). Later courses may be charged at a different rate. Fees quoted are on an individual student basis only. Opportunities Progression to Foundations of Advanced Mathematics and AS Mathematics. Essential requirement for teaching, many Higher Education courses, and some employment. Entry Requirement Specific requirements - Satisfactory initial assessment and informal interview with subject tutor. Students must be fully committed to the course and be prepared to attend regularly, hand in regular homework and assignments, as well as being able to organise their own time for independent study. Communication skills - Able to communicate clearly in writing. Literacy - Good literacy skills. Numeracy - Good numeracy skills. Action planning - Able to organise own time for independent study. Information Technology - An ability to use IT for coursework and accessing reference material both on the college network and on the internet would be an advantage.
