Course Description

Part Time Foundation Degree in Equine Studies This course gives students the opportunity to develop knowledge of the breeding, training and care of horses in combination with practical skills in stable management and equitation. Modules offered are wide-ranging and allow for a combination of the more academic aspects of Equine Studies, such as biomechanical disease, with more practical modules such as equine practical management skills and equine coaching skills. In addition, generic modules such as business management and career planning are offered. The college benefits from being situated near a number of quality commercial and professional equine yards, trainers and major show grounds including Hickstead, home of the International Horse Show and Hickstead Derby. Single modules from this course can be studied separately, allowing students to work towards the full Foundation Degree in a part-time mode whilst supporting those already in the industry to develop new skills. Students are prepared for a choice of careers in the equine industries or for progression on to the BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Performance awarded by the University of Brighton. Course Code: EF3009
