EXC50003SOP3A Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies Year 3 Duration: 30 weeks Campus: Omagh Awarding Body: Queen's University Belfast Background: The Foundation degree aims to provide the field of early years with qualified professionals who will be competent in their undertaking of the complex roles inherent in the variety of contexts, which constitute employment opportunities for the resulting graduates. The Foundation degree aims to: Respond to the local and national requirement for a course which will meet the need for high quality training to a graduate qualification for a range of professionals in the field of 'Educare'. Break down barriers between professionals thus reducing the risk that the needs of children and their families will not be fully met. Meet the needs of the client group by providing a wide range of knowledge, skill, experience and expertise drawn from relevant professional perspectives which they require. Course Content: 12 modules Shared Perspectives of the Young Child An Historical Overview of Early Childhood Provision Child Protection Progressive Practice (double module) The Developing Child Understanding Children's Behaviour Anti-Discriminatory Practice and Inclusion in the Early Years The Acquisition of Language and Communication Skills Learning through Play Quality Provision in the Early Years Either Working with Babies 0-3yrs or Working with Children with Special Educational Needs Progression: Additional Information:: Assessment Methods: Examination and course work. Course work takes the form of a PPDP - a Personal and Professional Development Portfolio. Entry Requirements (1)Applicants aged 18-20 years must have achieved a minimum of 4 passes GCSE Grade C or above, or an equivalent qualification (e.g. GNVQ Intermediate, BTEC First Diploma), which must include English Language or alternative qualification e.g. Key Skills Communication Level 2, and one of the following: BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Early Years or Cache Diploma in Nursery Nursing Early Years or Appropriate NVQ Level 3 Qualification or Another Qualification deemed suitable by the College Applicants aged 18-20 who do not have GCSE Mathematics grade C or above, or equivalent (e.g. Key Skills Application of Number Level 2) must undertake to achieve this qualification by the end of the first year of study of the Foundation Degree in ECS. BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Early Years or Cache Diploma in Nursery Nursing Early Years or Appropriate NVQ Level 3 Qualification or Another Qualification deemed suitable by the College Applicants over 21 are required to have GCSE Mathematics grade C or above, or equivalent (e.g. Key Skills Application of Number Level 2) by the end of the first year of study of the Foundation Degree in ECS.
