Foundation Degree in Complementary Health Yr1 of 2 Subject area: Complementary Health and Beauty Therapy Subject: Complementary Health Course type: Part time Students who have previously registered on a VTCT course (including a VTCT NVQ qualification) and wish to complete an additional VTCT qualification are required to present their yellow registration card when enrolling. Presentation of the card will result in a reduction of the ?14 registration fee. Failure to produce the card or proof of registration will result in a duplication of the fee payment. Please ask for information sheets for all our courses to receive additional information with reference to equipment and uniform requirements. Course description This innovative Foundation Degree is aimed at existing complementary practitioners, healthcare professionalsother caring professionals, appropriate mature persons wanting to change careers or young people wishing to qualify in complementary approaches to health. It will be delivered at Abingdon and Witney College but validated by Thames Valley University. You will be able to research and develop skills from academic, clinical and personal perspectives in the field of complementary medicine. There is an increasing demand both within and outside the NHS for the skills of complementary practitioners and this course has been designed to conform to National Occupational standards. The programme is designed on a modular basis and you will attend college for two days per week for two years. You will gain professional qualifications with the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and with the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA). Students will take the following modules: Year 1 Body Massage Reflexology Human Body Form and Function Introduction to Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Pathophysiology Professional Practice and Practitioner Skills. Year 2 Aromatherapy 1 and 2 Diet and Nutrition Enhancing Professional Practice and Therapeutic Communications Mind and body medicine. Skills for Critical Appraisal. In addition, students will develop the key skills essential in today's working world. Final award Foundation Degree ( Science) in Complementary Approaches to Health ( Aromatherapy and Reflexology) Entry requirements Traditional entry: GCE AVCE A Level points score of at least 40 points (which can include key skills, 3 GCSE passes grade C or above - Science, English and Maths and evidence of ability to study at HE Level 1). NVQ Level 3, BTEC ND andor VTCTITEC practitioner qualification. Non-traditional entry: Mature students will also be considered on the basis of prior experiential learning and ability to work at HE Level 1. Qualities needed for applicants may include: ability to understand basic scientific principles, analytical skills, ability to communicate, empathy, and a methodological approach. A preliminary interview would be required for these applicants. Additional information Applications are though UCAS. UCAS code TVU 0T40 B390 Fd Comp Med Fees for 2009-2010 will be confirmed in early 2009. All Fees are payable to Thames Valley University at enrolment.
