It will also enable you to access opportunities for senior posts and/or develop your Higher Education studies further. Profile The Foundation Degree, validated by Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), integrates academic and work based learning through close collaboration between employers, learners and the College. The programme is made up of 16 modules, eight at level 1 and eight at level 2 Modules (subject to validation) Level 1 Core Units Construction Technology and Services 1 Management Principles Information Technology 1 Law Science and Materials Site and Building Surveying Work Based Learning 1 Level 2 Core Units Construction Technology and Services 2 Contract Law and Procurement Information Technology 2 Health, Safety and Welfare Industrial Project Work Based Learning 2 Optional Modules Level 2 Tendering and Estimating Construction Economics Design Principles and Procedures Design Technology Additional Information The purchase of some of the relevant books indicated by the Course Materials are suggested, however students have access to both WMC and Liverpool John Moores Libraries as part of the course. Later courses may be charged at a different rate. Fees quoted are on an individual student basis only. Opportunities Employment as a higher technician with a building contractor or in a number of construction related disciplines including Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Construction Management. The Foundation Degree is an appropriate entry qualification to a number of construction related degree courses at Liverpool John Moores University, some of which can be studied on a part time basis, enabling you to continue with your employment whilst studying. Entry Requirement Specific requirements - BTEC National Award Construction. Communication skills - You will need the ability to communicate on a one to one basis and in a group as part of a discussion. Literacy - Much of the course material is presented in written form. You will need the ability to read and understand this material. Written assignments will form part of your assessment. Numeracy - Basic numeracy skills are needed in order to solve simple problems. Information Technology - Basic computer skills would be an advantage but are not essential as good training is provided. Manual dexterity and physical stamina - You will need the ability to carryout practical work which requires manual dexterity. All of the above skills will be developed throughout the course.
