First Aid - Early Years - Business Centre, Newbury Full Time courses for under 19's are free of charge Code : Start : End : Times : Day : Duration : Cost (Year 1)* BDFA02 091001 : 01082009 : 26072010 : to : : 2 Days : 130.00 Course Overview This two day course covers emergency care of babies, older children and adults. It teaches essential general care skills and highlights the difference between the aid given to infants and adults. This particular course is approved by the National Childminding Association and the Pre-School Learning Alliance. It is also recommended by Ofsted and is required by law for all people who work with children and infants below the age of 8. The cost of this course is 90 and runs between 9am - 4pm over two days. Qualification gained: First Aid Paediatric Certificate awarded by MFA. The certificate is valid for 3 years. To maintain the qualification, delegates must undertake a refresher course by the end of the third year. Course Content: This course will teach learners about the legislations concerning First Aid and children, as well as the correct way to seat children inside a car. It will also explain the essentials that one must always carry in their First Aid and how to use them properly. Learners will be taught how to react to incidents of different natures. Also they will be guided step by step though what to do when first arriving on the scene of an accident, what they are meant to assess considering all safety factors and how to correctly conduct an initial assessment. It will also be illustrated how to manage a casualty until an ambulance crew arrives. Learners will be taught the most appropriate way to assist individuals who are choking, and to care for those who are suffering from shock. They will also learn how to control bleeding from a variety of wounds. Learners will also be shown how to assess injuries varying in nature, such as head injuries, fractures, spinal management, eye injuries, burns and exposure to extreme temperatures. They will also be trained to recognise and cope with different illnesses, such as respiratory problems, allergic reactions, seizures and convulsions, poisoning, meningitis and diabetes. Work Experience: There are no employment or experience restrictions connected to this course. Course Assessment: A multiple-choice exam is held on completion of this course. A recognised certificate is awarded to successful candidates Progression: Individuals can progress to achieving NVQ's in Early Years Care. Homework: Two hours of revision will be required in the delegates own time. Revision is on-going throughout the two day programme. Course Fees Fees quoted with the course information are for the current academic year. Fees for the next academic year starting in September are subject to change and will be confirmed annually. Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year these fees are subject to confirmation annually.
