Start date Day Time start - Time finish September 2010 Introduction The Foundation Degree will allow graduates to enter the counselling profession with the appropriate academic knowledge and practical skills developed through a programme that has work-based learning at its centre. Alex Scarbrough, Senior Curriculum Leader, Counselling Counselling as a profession has been rising in profile for the past 20 years in the UK and is now an accepted and expected part of health services. Government initiatives, both to increase availability of counselling as a treatment (Increasing Availability of Psychological Therapies) and also to increase public safety for those accessing counselling intervention (Regulation of Counselling & Psychotherapy), have propelled counselling into public awareness and increased its attractiveness as a profession. Subjects you will study Modalities in Counselling (choose either Cognitive Behavioural or Person Centred) Personal and Professional Development (1) Comparative Theoretical Modalities Human Growth and Development Social, Political and Cultural Context of Counselling Counselling Children & Young People Independent Work-Based Learning (1) Introduction to Counselling Research Personal and Professional Development (2) Developing the Skills of Counselling (choose either Cognitive Behavioural or Person Centred) Introduction to Counselling Ethics and the Law relating to Counselling Counselling for Loss and Grief Independent Work-Based Learning (2) * Regular updates mean that module titles on the course may differ. Detailed Information Attendance Two years FT with one day a week in College, plus mandatory work placement. Assessment A wide range of assessment methods has been devised to test a range of student skills. Assessment types include seminar papers, tests, reports, presentations and examinations (including practical examinations).
