BTEC NC ENGINEERING Code: 8089/1A COURSE DURATION: 36 Week(s) COURSE DATES: 10 September 2009 to 30 June 2011 MODE OF ATTENDANCE: PT DAY COURSE RUNS: THU TIME: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM The new National Certificate course is the accepted part-time route to qualifications at Technician level in industry, and higher education. Entry Requirements You need to be at least 16, ideally with 3 GCSEs*, or other qualifications in a relevant subject area, or exceptionally with relevant industrial experience and agreement with the course tutor. * In Maths, Science, Physics of other relevant subjects. Course Content Core units are: Electrical and Electronic Principles Mechanical Principles and Applications Business Systems for Technicians Mathematics for Technicians Communication for Technicians Engineering Project Current options are: Principles and Applications of Electronics Electrical Technology Mechanical Systems and Technology Programmable Logic Controllers Electronic Fault Finding Electro, Hydraulic, Pneumatic Devices and Systems Further Electrical Principles Properties of Engineering Materials Engineering Drawing for Technicians Actual course units will depend on the stream chosen at enrolment. The Certificate is awarded on satisfactory completion of twelve units of study which are delivered by formal structured lectures and practical sessions. Computers, new technology, software and design packages are used where relevant. The course is studied one full day and one per week, currently 9am until 5.30pm over 2 academic years. Method of assessment Practical and written assignments and tests are used to assess learning throughout the academic year Progression routes The National Certificate qualifies you for entry to the Higher National Certificate/Diploma and other Higher Education routes including degrees.
