Driving Goods Vehicles (3990) Level 2 What does the course involve? Mandatory Units: Operating vehicle systems Driving the vehicle on public roads Completing pre-driving preparations Monitoring the loading of the vehicle Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces Maintaining awareness of driving conditions Maintaining the safety and security of the load, self and property What is the qualification and how is it gained? Eastleigh College is currently working with the Local Skills Alliance, Skills for Logistics, Road Haulage Association and KJM Solutions to develop a package of training and assessment leading to qualifications that meet the skills of the industry. This package covers the three distinct areas of: Carry and Deliver Goods Driving Goods Vehicles Traffic Office How will the course be taught? At the beginning of the programme, candidates will be given an induction to inform them of what will be expected in building up a portfolio of evidence for the NVQ. This will take a total of two hours per group. The underpinning knowledge is delivered either in workshops held at the College, through workbooks, or through online learning materials. Assessment of Competence is done entirely in the workplace and is in the form of observation, verbal questioning and assessing the notes made by the candidate in the portfolio of evidence. The assessment will take a total of ten hours per candidate. What skills will be taught? This is an assessed qualification. Candidates will be developo skills in loading and transporting loads, multi-drop deliveries and safety and route planning What progression routes are available? Candidates can progress to the NVQ Level 3 Driving Goods Vehicles Course What should students bring to the first class? The first visit will be an introduction to the course and therefore the individual does not need to bring any material. The NVQ Assessor will instruct the individual on further requirements. Are there any other costs involved? No How many weeks will the course run for? 26 to 52 weeks. Can students join at any time? Yes Entry Requirement These units are specifically written for those in the workplace, and are ideal for employees who: Have a job that involves the delivery of goods locally, with multiple stops Want to progress within their profession Wish to develop in all aspects of logistics, especially in loading and transporting loads to multi-drop deliveries, safety and route planning Want recognition for their skills and expertise Ideal for large goods drivers (more than 7.5 ton), (Class C & C&E, Class 1 & 2)
