Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling Level: Level 4 Part-time - 9.00am-5.00pm (fortnightly) How long is the coursetraining? This is a two-year course (46 days in total) starting MondayTuesday, 14th15th September 2009 and fortnightly on Mondays after that. Please note that this course is Full What will I be doing on the coursetraining? A nationally accredited course giving you a comprehensive insight into theory and practice. It is designed for those who want to use counselling ethically in their primary role or seek to become professionally qualified counsellors to eligible to start meeting the current requirements for full individual accreditation by BACP. The course operates within a Humanistic framework with the main theoretical approach being Person-Centred. The key concepts of two comparative theories are introduced, Cognitive Behaviour Theory and Psychodynamic thoery. Critical analysis of these three theories will be encouraged with case studies, experiential exercises, smalllarge group discussions and role plays. You will cover the following units: Professional and Organisational issues Counselling in a Diverse Society Counselling Theory Advanced Counselling Skills Self Awareness and Personal Development Counselling Specialisms (small team research on specialist topic) Counselling work in an Agency (100 hours of supervised voluntary counselling work Start date: 1st October 2009. Successful completion of the ABC level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills or evidence of having received as part of the candidate's professionalcareer training, an introduction to counselling skills and its satisfactory relationship to attendance, quality and methods of assessment. Satisfactory pre-course interview with tutors. These courses are for 19+ students - due to government funding. What can I do after this coursetraining? Use the qualification as professional development to progressdiversify in your current professional post. Practice as a counsellor and work toward BACP individual accreditation. What key skills will I do? Communication skills, e.g. giving and receiving feedback. Research, report writing and presentation skills, Working in small teams, Improving own learning and performance and problem solving. What residentialwork experience is there? A residential weekend in the Spring term of each year (cost included in course fee) 100 hours of supervised voluntary counselling work within an agency. What faculty is the coursetraining in? Community Education How to Apply? You need to fill in an application form for this course. You will be interviewed by our teaching staff (either in a group or individually) since it's important that you understand the content and commitment to the course. How do I study the coursetraining and how will I be assessed? The course aims to provide a safe environment allowing you to take risks and develop your potential both personally and professionally. Tutors will take a facilitative stance and you will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning. Individual tutorials will take place on a regular basis and individual action plans encouraged. Group sizes and learning methods will vary to meet individual and group needs. There will be ongoing evaluation and assessment throughout the course. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own counselling practice by focussed exercises, group exercises, tutorials and unstructured group time. There will be seven assessed assignments.
