Counselling Skills - ABC Level 3 What does the course involve? This course will enable you to improve skills in listening and communicating, develop self-awareness and gain an ABC Level 3 certificate. There are no other specific admission requirements other than an ability to demonstrate personal qualities indicating genuineness, respect and understanding towards others, a willingness to change and develop and to participate actively in learning. Successful completion of this course could open doors to voluntary work, support an application for a Diploma in HumanisticGestalt Counselling (DipHE) which is a 2 years in length and in turn can lead to the third year top up degree BA (Hons) Counselling,, or improve skills in the work place. The aims of the course are: to enable you to achieve competence in the knowledge and use of counselling skills to increase your understanding of the counselling process and the skills involved to practise and improve those skills to develop your sensitivity and awareness about the process of change and growth to understand at an introductory level some major approaches to counselling and to the philosophical and practical assumptions about the nature of people to identify your personal development and learning to relate the learning to your own roles and work settings Please note that because of the nature of the course it is recommended that relativesfriends do not attend the same class. What is the qualification and how is it gained? ABC Level 3 Counselling Skills Certificate How will the course be taught? The learning on this course will take place in a variety of ways: input by tutors and students group discussions practise sessions in small groups videos tutorials There will be four written assignments relating to the 4 units of the course. One of these assignments, consisting of a taped practice counselling session and analysis will be marked externally. An on-going personal learning journal will form the basis for one of the assignments. What skills will be taught? Counselling skills. What progression routes are available? Diploma in HumanisticGestalt Counselling DipHE BA (Hons) Counselling (Top Up Degree) What should students bring to the first class? Notebook and pen Are there any other costs involved? Students will be responsible for the purchase of materials relevant to the course. How many weeks will the course run for? 36 Can students join at any time? No Entry Requirement This course is available if you are over twenty years of age, and have already attended an introductory Counselling Skills course or similar for a minimum of twelve hours. Entry to this course is either following a short interview by your Basics in Counselling tutor (ABC L2 tutor) or if an external applicant, following an interview at the Cranbury Centre. To request an information pack call (023) 8032 2140. This course will help you to achieve competence in the knowledge and use of counselling skills. This certificate is recognised by voluntary agencies and colleges offering advanced training to diploma and degree level, and is therefore an ideal preparatory course for further training. You will be required to attend a non-residential weekend and one Saturday a term.
